Eh, if you don't mind a ~30 minute drive each night, I've stayed at the Motel 6 in East Lyme, but then I'm a cheapskate. I seem to remember a couple of places along Rte. 2, but more the bed-and-breakfast kind of thing. Norwich is about 10 min. away but not the most happening city; I'm sure it has something, though, I just haven't looked.

I've used the Days Inn Mystic as my FW backup twice in the past. but as this is the peak season for the seaside town, it's going to be a little over $100 a day on the weekends. Niantic is slightly cheaper but it's another 2-3 exits down I-95 and is a pretty "ghetto" neighborhood.

during the off-peak months, the rates go way down to about $39.

Flagship Inn in Groton (15 minutes away). It's cheap and clean and safe, but no frills.

I usually stay in New London. This is what I usually do, go to travelocity/expedia/hotels.com and look for good rates. Then go to the hotels direct web site, and make the reservation (because its easier to cancel.) Finally, on my way interstate rest area, have free hotel travel books, that offer same day reservation with coupon. If I get a better rate from that book, I cancel my original reservation.

Im trying to think of the place I stayed during WPT season... It was no more than 6-8 minutes down the road... (route 2, I believe?)... Whirlpool something...grr...I'll try and get back to you on that...either way, it was very reasonably priced, and was recommended by the woman I talked to at Foxwoods when they were already booked solid...was nice of them to give out phone numbers and everything...

AmericInn in Griswold. About 15 minutes away. Shuttle service. Brand new clean rooms and free breakfast.

by the rt 2 rotary there is a very cheap place that has temperpedic mattresses, jacuzzi's, and free limo service after 4pm. I think it was $79/nite. I can't think of a better place around. Five min from the front door. With the extra time you can just start shoving dollars into the toke box in the poker room while the floorpeople laugh at you.
