Default Validation or ridicule, please

.25-50 NL on PokerRoom, I'm in the SB with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].

3 limpers, 1 post, I raise to $1. UTG+1 goes all-in making it $4.50 to go. Limpers fold around to me. It's $3.75 for me to call and the pot is $7.

Unless I'm sure he's got AA this is a reasonable call, right?

I called, he had A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and the flop came KQT, straight for me. T turn, 9 river. I got lucky for sure...I'm just wondering about my call of the all-in.

No, AK is a fine example of why you don't call, as is AQ, AA, KK, QQ, JJ.

I think he means he's getting 2 to 1.

Short stacks will push any two in spots like this, especially if he has 1/10th of the buyin. Your call is fine with 2:1 and potentially a broad range of holdings from him. Get him out and get someone else into his chair thatll actually have money

You are less than 2:1 even if he has AQo.

Marginal call really, unless I know hes a donk whos range includes small PP's, I fold.

Your call of the all-in is fine. Your mini raise out of the SB is a leak that needs to be plugged.

Why are you raising with a drawing hand in the worst position at the table?

Even worse, why minraise? To be frank, minraise screams fish. It accomplishes nothing, its not going to make anyone fold, it gives info to players who watch as to a range of hands you might be on.

I can't tell you how many times I've busted minraisers with mediocre holdings in the BB who challenge me to call with their weak raises. Since they minraise, they often like their hands preflop and are more attached to it then I am. So when I hit, they'll pay me off.

Furthermore, you reopen the betting to anyone with a really strong hand.

Regarding the all-in call... its mediocre at best unless you knew he was liable to do it with any PP. Considering he his stack is so low and he checkraised, I'm willing to bet hes got you beat. I think if he had a low PP, he would have opened all in. I'd would bet he had JJ-AA, AK or AQ.

Good points, all...thanks. I didn't figure him for a really big hand, though I can't say I had anything but a feel. Not the best call ever, but not totally outlandish?

It wasn't actually a minraise...pokerroom's ".25-.50" (which they changed to .25-.25 a while back and I didn't stop thinking of it as .25-.50) is .15 SB-.25BB. So it was a raise to 4xBB, not 2x it looks like if the blinds are .25 and .50.

Just calling, don't you run the risk of running into the any-ace brigade and having no idea where you stand post-flop? (Leaving aside that this flop wouldn't have left any doubt, of course.)
