Stu Ungar - how many WSOPs did he play in?

I'm not sure if this post belongs in this forum but forgive me if it doesn't...

Anyhow, I just finished watching the movie 'High Roller' based on Stuey's life and I was wondering how many WSOP's he entered? I know that he won 2 back to back, basically the 1st and 2nd time he ever played in the WSOP and he won the 3rd time in '97. However, did he just disappear for a while after the 2nd time and finally showed up again in '97 or did he play in some of the WSOP's in between but got knocked out or whatever?

I'm only referring to the main event.

Stuey finished 9th in 1990. In 1983 he won a 7CS bracelet, I would guess he was sober enough to play in the main event that year.

He supposedly only played in thirty 10,000 buy-ins in his life and won 10. So that means he did miss a few main events.

Damn you beat me to it...I just read that the other day in Positively Fifth Street.
That's an amazing stat of you think about it...1/3 of the $10k+ buy-ins he entered, he took down. I'd love to do that on S&G nevermind Main Event sized tournies.

I think it's actually 30 5k+ buyins and he won ten. I guess he won the now-defunct Super bowl of poker 3x too.

The movie was mediocre at best. Really, the part that made it bad was there are so many great Stuey stories you would just wish they would stick to those. They kind of sped through and didn't get as dark and interesting as they could have. It was really disapointing to see the life story of such an interesting character be so straight forward.

I think someone who had no idea who Stu Unger was would think it was a decent movie.

And an appearance by VVP didn't help.

it was a dissapointing movie from a poker player's perspective. I think this movie would be decent for the non poker players, but it could have been more interesting. for a guy who had such an interesting life, it was a pretty bad story of his life.

I just finished watching this movie, and it was pretty bad. I just had to tell someone. Very disappointing. The cheesy pop music throughout was sickening.

the movie wasn't THAT bad...it's just hard to live up to the legend. the movie actually points this out several times. also, whoever said that it wasn't dark enough didn't watch the same movie that i did.

the best scene is stu playing gin with mr. myagi or whatever...what a great scene that pretty much encapsulates stu's entire being.
