I think the John Wayne/Clint Eastwood factions will have a hard time settling on one film, since both of those guys did so many QUALITY westerns. If you broke this into categories, like "Drama", "Romance", "Comedy", etc., I think the only surefire thing that everybody would agree on is that Blazing Saddles is the best Western comedy ever made.

Swede,

Should this upcoming 'Big Dance' contain comedies?
What was your intent?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, personally I think this category should be allowed to be more open than some of the other specific genre. I think Blazing Saddles (to name one) should be allowed in here, if for no other reason because it was DQ'd from the comedy thread because of being made one year too early. But if there are lots of folks against including comedic westerns we can decide on it later.

My thoughts would be to exclude comedies. Besides Blazing Saddles and perhaps Cat Ballou, I don't think any other comedy would merit serious consideration anyways. I mean...Shanghai Knights? Rustlers' Rhapsody? Support Your Local Gunfighter? Umm....no.

"Hud" is one of my favorite movies ever, but I've never even thought of it as a western.

If Hud would qualify, what about Grapes of Wrath?
