Fliescher had a much easier job than McClellan. When the Press Corps actually gets some balls, and asks you essentially the same question 23 times in a half hour without accepting your non-answers, it's impossible to look good.

But then, I doubt Fleischer would ever be stupid enough to call Helen Thomas a terrorist supporter like McClellan did...

C-SPAN has never been so fun to watch.

Default Can you tell when Scott McClellan is lying ?

Yeah, I know, when "he opens his mouth", ha ha ha. No, what I'm trying to say is that when you are hiring a press secretary, the first thing you are looking for is ability to lie good. In other words, you are looking for a solid poker player - and we are talking brick & mortar here, not the online multitabling guy who pounds and screams at his computer when he is outdrawn.

This gig is ideal for good poker players. The White House chief of staff should be hiring people after playing with them an hour of poker. In fact, the chief of staff should be a very strong poker player himself, to begin with.

Take away Scott; bring on Phil. (Or Barry. Or Mike. Or you.)

I realize that his job is hard given the current circumstances

This is an enormous understatement. With what he is given, I don't know how someone could be good at this job. I'm surprised he isn't bald yet.

Just to clarify, the point of my post was not that he is a liar, of course he is. That is what press secretaries do. Its that he is a horrible spinner- its obvious that he has a small group of phrases/talking points in his head and is unable to think on his feet in any meaningful way.

Example- Fleisher was great at lying/spinning regarding budget projections when the bush tax cuts were being pushed through. McClellan just seems to make the administration look worse by saying the same 5 phrases over and over.
