Default So, this happened to me last night at the casino. Rules question.

last night

200-500, 5/10 NL

im on the button

UTG raises to 20

MP re-raises to 50

I reraise to 150

UTG folds

MP calls

flop comes J J 10

MP checks

I go all in.

now, none of that matters. see, what happened is that the guy in MP who had been playing the whole time got up and went to the bathroom, and told some guy that he could sit down and play the next hand. so i was playing against guy #2, with guy #1s money. guy #1 comes back, asks whats going on, and one of the other players at the table says, "wait, thats not his money...he isnt supposed to be playing...."

floor was called, hand was called dead, pot goes to me.

interesting.

needless to say, the thuggy little kids were whining for their money back.

1 player per hand, you let anyone else "play" your hand for you and its ruled dead, tough nuts.

Your post is not clear enough to give a valid opinion. Many clubs (especially small ones) allow a player to "play over" someone's stack - which means they play their own money, but have to give the seat back when the first player wants it.

It also used to be fairly common for the first player to allow another player to "play their stack" - while they went to lunch or on some similar break. If in your situation player "A" left the table before the hand in question, and did not look at the hand when he came back, then I think the floor's decision was a poor one, unless the club has a specific rule that states that allowing another player to play your chips is against the rules.

got ya.

it was not a "play over"

say youre at the table. you stand up to go to the washroom before the cards are dealt. i say, "hey, bro.....lemme play this hand," sit down, noone notices, dealer deals to me, and play the hand. halfway through the hand you come back and ask me whats going on. another player not in the hand says, "wait a minute, thats not your stack..." is my hand dead? what happens to the action that i put out there?

Terrible ruling. What exactly did these guys do wrong? Did they cheat? Did they have more than one person play that hand? Did they somehow violate some handicapping rule by bringing in a ringer?
The one player to a hand rule isn't applicable here. Maybe they have a rule that says you can't play with someone else's money. But the dealer should have caught that (or the players should have) and not let him play. But once he's put money in the pot, he should certainly be allowed to play it out. Declaring his hand dead at that point really is just robbery. After all, one could argue that it was the dealer's fault for dealing him in.
You didn't do anything wrong since it wasn't you who made the 'complaint'. And I wouldn't expect you to give the money back. But if I ran that room, I would fire that floor for lack of common sense and judgment.

well, heres a more accurate account.

when guy #1 came back from the washroom, i just announced all-in. guy #2 was thinking about it. as guy #1 approached the table, guy #2 said, "hey, look what happened...." and showed guy #1 his cards. (turns out that he was open-ended to broadway, to my pocket queens) -it was at that moment that another player scolded guy #2 for showing his cards to another table, and then also realized that it was a different guy playing.

i see what you are saying, but i understand the house rule. see...in a casino where you have to get on a list to play at a table, only you can play with your money. if subs were allowed, what would stop me from "giving" my seat to someone when i was done playing, when there is a line of people that are waiting to play?
