I already responded to theirs, but you responded with a rude comment, and I'm not going to just sit here and take it.

to Elwood...

Could you have any more sympathy for the murderers? I'm sure you could if you worked hard at it, but you already have so much for them and so little for the victims that it is pointless to talk to you about it.

Your heart bleeds for the scum of this society.

I have sympathy for the victims as well. They shouldn't have been killed. No question about it. The family members shouldn't have lost a loved one. No question. How that relates to me then wanting someone else dead is what I don't get.

To use your words, I would say that my heart bleeds when a life is lost for no good reason. Society is protected and the criminal is punished with life in prison with no possibility of parole.

If you want to get revenege, stick them in prison because that is much worse than death.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've probably posted this before but maybe not. The last guy executed in New Mexico was a child molestor who killed a 9 year old girl. His name was Terry Clark here's a synopsys of the circumstances of his crime:

Dena Lynn Gore disappeared on July 17, 1986, while riding a bike near her home to a convenience store. Her naked, bound body was found 5 days later in a shallow grave on a ranch where Terry Clark was employed. She had been raped and shot 3 times in the back of the head. At the time, Clark was free on bond pending appeal of his conviction for kidnapping and raping a 6-year-old Roswell girl in 1984.

Do they get any scummier? There was absolutely no doubt that he was guilty as he never denied killing her. Here's the irony, Terry Clark decided that he'd had enough of death row and decided to end his appeals. From newspaper reports, Clark apparently detested his life on death row and preferred to be executed rather than continue his existance that way. In other words Clark actually preferred death to his death row existance. So in the case of punishing Clark anyway, maintaining Clark's existance on death row would have been a much better way to punish him than a lethal injection. Clark was executed in 2001 after dropping his appeals.

why not give the convict the choice, especially if they could change their mind later on down the road?

Oh damn, and I thought no one would mention it. Of course the death penelty is unnecessary and ignorant, and of course it's all about revenge. That said, agrieved people need revenge and the general populus needs to see people executed to maintain that base level of saftey we love so much.
Add that too the list of messed up things we bring upon ourselves.

He responded with a joke, not a barb. Relax, you seem to answer the other posts with insight, stick to those.
