Zaxx, you make some good points, but I also disagree on principle.

I, like Elwood, know I am in the minority though, but I respect that stance.

How bouth a serial child molester, who killed his young victims after MONTHS of sexual, mental, physical, and spiritual abuse??

Actually I imagine justice would be served better if you put this person in the general populace of a prison. This type of thing tends to err work itself out in a place such as this.

I am kinda suprised this hasn't been done in this thread already. I believe though we should compare our rate of violent crime to other industrialized nations. If I remember correctly we have one of the highest rates of violent crime per capita.

In 2001 Texas was #13 in violent crime per capita. If the death penalty was such a deterrent shouldn't Texas have a much lower crime rate than most other states?

no, because if Texas didn't have it, there would probably be like a million murders.

It's interesting to note, but there are so many potential factors that go into a statistic like this that you can't read too much into it. Some would argue (in fact, some have argued in this thread) that the only reason the death penalty isn't deterring violent crime is because it isn't being adminitered correctly.

man this argument is weak. it's not about killing innocent people, it's about killing anyone!

how are you any better than the criminal if you (as a government) are putting people to death, even if they ARE killers?

death penalty makes no sense.

I already responded to theirs, but you responded with a rude comment, and I'm not going to just sit here and take it.

Grow up.

Could you have any more sympathy for the murderers? I'm sure you could if you worked hard at it, but you already have so much for them and so little for the victims that it is pointless to talk to you about it.

Your heart bleeds for the scum of this society.
