Default Pumping New Orleans

So the news today is all about how they have started pumping water out of NOLA.

For the last week all I've heard is how polluted and toxic that water is. Which leads me to this question....

What are they doing with it? Are they just saying [censored] it and pumping back into the lake/river? Seems like a bad idea to me but I don't have any other practical suggestions. Does anyone know the answer to this question...

I heard this addressed yesterday on CNN. All the water in whatever condition it is in, is being pumped back into the lake. What else could they do run it through a treatment plant and take 2 years to pump it out?

I'm curious, what would your reponse be to the citizens who live there saying that will take too long for them to begin rebuilding their homes and lives?

This would be the key part of your statement, which also applies to the morons living on the beaches of Florida, rebuilding their mansions after every hurricane comes through.

Yea, they are dumping the sh!t back into the lake/gulf of Mexico. Not only is this the greatest natural disaster in US history, it's going to be the greatest ecological disaster in history as well.

They should dump it into a landfill where it would easily evaporate. Pumping it into the river is very stupid because it would just submerge and stay underwater forever. By pumping it to a shallow landfill it would evaporate and we would no longer have to be concerned with it.
