Bad fold on the river?

Did I make a bad laydown here on the river?

I post in the cutoff with AcKcQx5x

There are two limpers, I check, button raises, BB, 2 limpers and I all call.

Flop is As Ts 7h. Checked around.

Turn is Jh. There is a bet, I raise, one guy cold calls, 1 guy folds, button 3-bets and everyone just calls.

4-handed, we see a River of 4s. All check to the button who bets, is raised and flat called before it gets to me. I mucked. Comments?

This really goes to one of the most confounding issues of Hi/Lo games for me:

Was the river raise someone making his high or someone making his low?

To tell the truth, the betting in this hand (or lack thereof) on just about every street confuses the crap out of me. Well, that's not true. The pre-flop and river betting make enough sense, but the flop and turn have me sort of baffled when taken in the context of what came before and after.

I'm assuming that someone else made a high straight or maybe the button had a set of aces?

This is an easy fold for me at this point.

You flopped to low cards, so the low draws are sticking around.

The flush came on the river and with a bet, a raise and a call in front of you...one of them most likely backed into a flush.

I would fold this in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't like to lay down the straight...but I would.

Button 3-betting on the turn would make me think he also had the nut straight. But then the 3rd spade comes on the river and someone check-raises the button.
It's hard to know if someone is raising their low, or their spade flush - or bluffing to represent the spade flush.

Since it's O8 the odds are that someone could have the flush and that someone does have the nut low - it's one of those decisions which I ultimately make depending on the size of the pot at that point. Don't forget that you're betting on only half the pot at this point since the low card came.
It might have been a good idea to reraise on the turn to protect your straight and hopefully drive out anyone drawing to a low or a flush.

I thought it was a pretty easy fold as well, since:
A. There is a VERY good chance that the best I can do is to split the high.
B. The pot may still get pumped up after I call.

As it turns out, the river bettor had the 2nd nut low, raiser had the nut str8 and the cold caller had the nut low.

Nevertheless, I was pretty confident that folding was good in that spot.

Yeah I was going to say that the best you are probably going to do here is take down a quarter of the pot... and my bet is you wouldn't even get that.

And seeing that action in front of you, I think your scenario "B" would have been very likely, that you would be raised and reraised with a crying call.

That would have had to be -EV.

tough, but good laydwon. both the flush and the lo have come in. if you had a made lo with no possibility of a reraise behind you, i think i might muster a call.

I like your play on all streets.

On the turn I like your call instead of capping. With 4 players in the pot 2 flush draws, a low draw, and someone 3 betting I am not sure you have 1/4 of the equity. There are so few cards that you like on the river and it looks like the 3 bettor could have your straight too.

On the river there is 23BB in the pot of which you are going to have to cold call 2 to win 11.5. Couple that with the river CR, the fact that you are not closing the betting, as well as someone representing the same str8 that you have and I would fold. I probably would cure a little first but I would fold.
