I call - at 19:1, you need to be 95% sure you're beaten to fold this river for one bet. What if he had pocket queens?

I play this exactly the way you did, including betting out on the river. You can't put a player like this on a hand very well, but I'm thinking he has a pair of 7's on flop, called when the 8 showed. I call the raise even figuring i'm probably beat. This kinda player could be thinking , wow, unlikely now he has an 8 and I have 2 pair,,yippee. It's worth a call figuring there is a 1 in 18 chance villian is an idiot. (cold-called with A8o, this thinking is not a stretch).
