MGM or NY-NY for hotel room?
I have a business trip planned for Vegas during the last week of July and I am debating on places to stay. I am hoping to do most of my playing at the MGM and possibly Excalibur. I was going to just reserve a room at the MGM but I keep reading about how far it is to get from the rooms to the casino. Would I be happier staying at NY-NY and walking across the street? I have not stayed at either and would appreciate some suggestions from the folks here.
I have stayed at the Trop and would prefer not to go back. While I enjoyed the Excal poker room, I'm not so sure I want to stay there. Although I hear the pool is nice at MGM I don't know how much of this pale Oregon skin will want to spend outside in the July sun, so it isn't so much of a consideration. Any input is welcome. Feel free to suggest other places as well, but I would like to stay near that corner. |

You can't go wrong with NYNY. The rooms are a little cheaper, the walk to either Excalibur or the MGM are nothing to sweat, and their pool isn't the worst on the strip by any means... I also found out by working at NYNY at one time that the service their is top notch... Very friendly staff from valet all the way to bellhops and room service...

Don't stay at either -- save your money and stay at San Remo. The rooms are fine, the service is surprisingly decent, and they're cheeeeeaaaaaaap. SR is a 2 minute walk (or less) from MGM's poker room, and just a tad more to Excalibur's. You can go less than 1 block across Tropicana Blvd to the main MGM entrance to catch the tram to other points. Can't be beat.

Re: MGM or NY-NY for hotel room?
Thanks for the quick posts...
just for clarification, everything but the gambling is covered on ye olde expense report, so I am not too concerned about being frugal. I'm not looking to get the suite treatment, but the standard rates of these places is not a problem. I am spending 7 nights in town and would like a nice room. I hear the deluxe rooms at NYNY are bigger (500 ft2) and not much more expensive. thanks again... |

Expense Account --
Try Mandalay Bay, or better still, THEhotel at Mandalay Bay. Better room, better pool, though the tram to luxor/excaliber is a bit of a pain. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah I've stayed at the NYNY three times, first two times were fine but the last time I was on one of the bottom floors. The room had a nice view of an air conditioner unit and I could hear people screaming on the roller coaster all day. So my suggestion would be to request a room on a higher floor. |

the staff was very nice last time I was at NYNY, about 3 months ago, they upgraded our room for free, and comped some meals when my uncle was making not that big of bets, 25-50

Re: MGM or NY-NY for hotel room?
Have stayed at both twice, the second time at NYNY was only because the room was free, a friend was there for business. I don't like NYNY(and I am originally from NY), don't like the layout for the elevators for the different towers and as Dynasty said, don't get a room that looks on to the rollercoaster, we did and it sucks, especially if you are up late, drinking and/or playing poker (as you should be). The pool is beyond brutal, its small and crowded...
Hands down the MGM if that is you only other choice. If you can go elsewhere, of the places I have stayed, Bellagio or Mirage, both are well located on the strip. I find Mandalay too far from everything.... |
