Default This Is Why I Hate NL

Last Friday I played in a NL cash game with a local group of poker players. It was $1-2 with $100 max buyin. I was doing okay but later lost my stack when I played a hand like I would in limit.

I planned on going back next week because I had fun. I didn't want to blow $100 again though so I figured I'd play some NL this week and try to get back into the swing of things. Everything was going pretty well untill :

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (8 handed) converter

MP2 ($40.55)
CO ($23.97)
Button ($61.75)
SB ($45.5)
Hero ($43.25)
UTG ($79.55)
UTG+1 ($45.05)
MP1 ($46.35)

Preflop: Hero is BB with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.25.
UTG calls $0.50, UTG+1 calls $0.50, MP1 calls $0.50, MP2 calls $0.50, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">SB (poster) raises to $1.75</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, SB calls $41.25.

Flop: ($45.75) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>

Turn: ($45.75) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>

River: ($45.75) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>

Final Pot: $45.75

Results in white below: <font color="#FFFFFF">
SB has Kh As (flush, ace high).
Hero has Kc Kd (three of a kind, kings).
Outcome: SB wins $45.75. </font>

:sigh:

No wonder I left NL to play Limit. The guy actually had the nerve to say to me that I made a bad raise preflop. Like calling that raise with AKo was better.

I love NL because of people like the small blind here.
Granted, I got lucky in this hand, but this guy really felt the urge to just give money to the eventual winner of the hand.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed) converter

UTG+2 ($24.75)
MP1 ($20.38)
MP2 ($25.25)
MP3 ($24.05)
CO ($19)
Button ($26.9)
SB ($23.87)
BB ($54.3)
UTG ($25)
Hero ($45.2)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.1.
<font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, Hero calls $0.25, UTG+2 calls $0.25, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP3 raises to $2</font>, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, SB (poster) calls $1.90, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, Hero calls $1.75, UTG+2 calls $1.75.

Flop: ($8.25) K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(4 players)</font>
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG+2 calls $22.75 (All-In), MP3 folds, SB calls $21.87 (All-In), Hero calls $22.75.

Turn: ($75.62) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players, 2 all-in)</font>

River: ($75.62) 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players, 2 all-in)</font>

Final Pot: $75.62

Results in white below: <font color="#FFFFFF">
SB has Ts 9s (one pair, fours).
Hero has 5d 6d (straight flush, eight high).
UTG+2 has Td Jd (flush, king high).
Outcome: Hero wins $75.62. </font>

That's nice... sadly I've never got a royal or straight flush in about 75,000 hands so I don't know how that feels.

I saw a similar hand like that while I was playing today. A guy flopped an open-ended straight flush draw and hit it on the river. Lucky for him the other guy paid him off because he hit a full house.

I guess if you're ever going to hit a 1-outter though, you want to get paid off for it.

Thanks for those #'s. When I play NL I usually don't try to get too crazy preflop but with 4 limpers and a raise behind me, I would have just been happy taking the $4 that was on the table already. I figured if someone called, I'd probably be well off.

I don't mind if an ace comes on board to beat my kings but it hurts bad when 4 of a suit come up and I'm left losing the hand to a 1 card flush.

Crap, I didn't notice he had the quads. I thought he had the FH. Thanks Jon!

I probably would have slow-played that quad too.
