Betting question (problem).
Ok, the game is low limit hold'em. 3 players see my pre-flop raise. I bet the flop and everyone calls. On the turn, a player bets out before it gets to me! What should I make of that? Is he strong and just wants to make sure he gets a bet in because I might check, or is he usually bluffing?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. |

Re: Betting question (problem).
What is your image and what is your image of their opponents?
How often have you played? Online or live? What is in your hand and what is on the board? What is your position? |

Re: Betting question (problem).
The card that comes out is very important too.
is it an overcard to the flop? does it complete any apparent draws? etc. |

Re: Betting question (problem).
Donkbets are not bluffs.
Ok, sometimes they are bluffs or stopping bets, but they generally show more strength than a bet after you check, or a bet continuing aggression shown on the previous street. Donkbets by passive players are very rarely bluffs. The bettor's position relative to the other players matters a lot. |

Re: Betting question (problem).
The play is online. Let's assume the rest is neutral. I don't understand what difference it make how often I've played since the question is about HIS bet into me. But since you ask, I've been playing for about 6 months.

Re: Betting question (problem).
For the sake of this question, it really doesn't matter. I'm simply asking what his bet implies! Let's assume the card that comes out is neutral.

Re: Betting question (problem).
In Atlantic City that bet is guaranteed to be a bluff; reasonable (see: sober) players here - even bad ones - know whose bet it is.
You will occasionally (OK, frequently) see players unaware that it's their bet but you'll almost never see anyone think it's their bet when it isn't. * Exception: If an occasional player asks, "is it up to me" then bets before receiving an answer - FOLD. * BTW, none of this was meant to contradict pzhon; my comments refer to A.C. and only to A.C. I don't travel enough to know what they do elsewhere. |
