ray zee's book

Is ray zee's book seven stud and omaha8B a good book to start out with because i have been doing some searching and cant find a good book for o8b and seven stud H/L. I am fimilar with the games but play holdem. So if anyone has read this book do u think its a good begginers boo ?

Zee is good. So is the O8 section of Super System II.

I haven't decided if there are two or three reasons to recommend Super System II - I do know that the O8 section is absolutely one of those reasons. It is terrific and very well written.

Zee's book is very good for both games but I wouldn't recommend it as your only book especially if you are a beginner. Some of the concepts in the book apply to more intermediate/advanced games and may not be entirely appropriate for a loose, low limit game.

For Omaha 8/better and Stud 8/better, the sections in Hellmuth's PPLTP was actually decent. Both sections are well written in SS2 as well.

Zee also recommends Sklansky's section in SS1 for Stud.

I also read Krieger and Tenner's Winning Omaha 8/better book. I thought it was a good beginner/intermediate primer for Omaha. This book though does have a lot of metaphors and cliches which may annoy some readers (one of the reasons why Mason did not like this book).

Other than that, there are not a lot of good sources for Omaha and Stud... Good luck

Has anyone read Shane Smith or Bill Boston's books on Omaha? Always wondered if these books were worthwhile?

Bill Boston's is essentially pages of hand charts and values.

Zee's book is honestly my favorite out of the 2+2 catalog, no book has helped me more. [img]/images/graemlins/ooo.gif[/img]

I believe that Boston's book is very worthwhile as a supplement to a book such as Zee's, but it's not a great primary reference. Review:

I've read Smith's book. It may help an Omaha8 novice more than hurt, but I don't think there is much there for someone with significant O8 experience.

I have about 30 (maybe more) books in my posession. If I had to only keep 5 of them this book would make the list. IMO it's that good.

I would only recommend Zees book to Advanced players with a lot of experience.
In terms of O8 and Stud Hilo buy supersystem II why?
Its more concise 60 pages each.
Written by world champions not just a top high cash player like Zee
Both games are very difficult to play well and also require hours of hand research using computer simulation.

I'm sure Ray Zee is a great poker player, but his book is of almost no use to someone trying to learn how to play high low from scratch.
