Default Bad Beat Jackpot hits TWICE in less than an hour-Argosy trip report

My friend and I arrive at Argosy Casino in Baton Rouge at 5:00pm Saturday evening and put our names on the 4-8 list. My friend says, "Look, the bad beat jackpot is up to 110K." Not 2 minutes later there is a loud rukus, with lots of screaming at the 1/2 NL table in the back. The bad beat had been hit with JJJJ losing to AAAA. Things finally calm down as the players wait for their money and we get seated at a 4-8 game.

5:55pm, the bad beat jackpot table is still waiting to get paid when suddenly, screaming erupts from the 1/2 NL table right next to it. 7777 was beat by a str8 flush. The backup jackpot is 33.5K. They re-seed it again, this time with $1000.60!...lol

The poker room. Not really a room, just 8 tables set up and roped off in the middle of slots on the 3rd floor. The CLANG CLANG CLANG is still ringing in my ears. Drink service was slow at best with only one waitress working the 8 tables. They were spreading two-1/2NL games, one-4/8/12/12 HE/Omaha game, two-3/6 games, and three-4/8 games. The rake is $5 max with and extra buck for the bad beat at $20.

The dealers. Your usual mix of really good ones, average ones, and God awful.

The players. The fish on a .50/1 Party Poker table could beat these guys. An INSANELY aggressive game. In the 7 hours I played I counted 8 pre-flop caps with at least 8 players. Old guy sits to my right and proceeds to play and raise every hand pre-flop for the next 2 hours. He ran his $100 buy-in up to $500 in one hour before losing it all in the next hour. I was sad to see him go.

Example. I get K Q offsuit in MP and old guy raises as usual, I 3-bet, a bunch call, he caps, I call. Flop is K rag rag. Old guy bets out, I raise, 2 or 3 fish call, old guy 3-bets, I cap, the others follow. Turn is Q. Old guy bets, I raise, 1 fish calls, old guy 3-bets, I cap, fish calls. River is Q. Old guy bets, I raise, fish folds, old guy 3-bets, I cap (no HU unlimited at Argosy ) and turn over the goods. Old guy taps the table and shows K 10?!?!?!?

I'd say the average pot was $100, with $200-$250 pots not that uncommon. Another friend of mine was playing at a different 4/8 table and comfirmed the same thing. Action like this offsets the high rake for sure.

The dealer at the first bad beat table received 5K in tips.

I'll be back next weekend. Thanks for listening.

Yea, but it took 3 hours for everyone to get paid! Louisiana law says that any payout over 100K has to be verified by the State Police. They took their sweet time getting to the casino, not arriving until 7:30pm. Still, 5K for a 3 1/2 hour down is not too shabby.

One more thing about the dealers. I'd have to say MOST were very professional and competent, but one....ARGH! Guy 2 seats to my left says, "raise", and proceeds to move his chips in two seperate stacks of 4 towards the middle. One stack falls to the felt, so he reaches back for it after the first stack goes into the middle. Of course, a fish on the other end of the table screams, "String bet!", to which the horrible dealer says, "That's a sting bet." Guy says, "[censored], I said raise.", which I confirmed to the dealer. Dealer says she didn't hear him say it and will not allow the raise. Guy goes on to win the hand anyway. The reason she didn't hear it, was because she was yapping with the player in seat ten.

A few hands later the same guy is in a hand on the river with the guy in seat one. A 4th diamond hits the river and when the cards are turned over seat one has 2 pair, while our guy has made the diamond flush with his QQ. The dealer mucks our guys hand, INSANITY ensues, the tape is rolled back, because of course the dumb-a$$ dealer, who was yapping again with seat ten doesn't believe me or anyone else that he had the flush.

Our guy asks the floor to replace the incompent dealer and the floor complies! But I think that her down was about over anyway.

Thanks for listening again.

Argosy allows HU unlimited raises, but only if you start the round HU. In your case the betting round started multiplayer so the cap applies.

Makes sense now. Hardly any river play was HU all night, thats how insane it was.
