Re: Best way to learn poker, Yearly Plan

[ QUOTE ] I think I'm at the stage now where reading is as necessary as practice [/ QUOTE ] Reading is good. Read as much as you can! BTW, the secret to sucess in poker (and other things) is not practice, practice, practice... it is Research, Practice, Analyze, Repeat. [/ QUOTE ] That is an accurate statement; however, IMO one would be better off spending more time playing than researching. Concepts are more easily understood when seen in practice, rather than in a textbook. But that's just my $0.02. |

Re: Best way to learn poker, Yearly Plan
Thanks for all the replies,
I like the advice to do more analysis. I plan on doing more analysis of hands I have questions about, probably on the 2+2 forums. I think the advice to play more and get more experience is good but I'm playing fewer tables than I used to. I'm trying to play well on one 2/4 or 3/6 NL table rather go through the motions on four .50/1.00 NL tables. My primary goal is to be a winning 5/10 NL player in a years time. derick |

Different peope learn in different ways, so there is no perfect allocation, but, you must do all three to truly be successful! |

A Done. I also read SSH 12 times and HEPFAP 7 times and about 40 other books. [/ QUOTE ] Why oh why? Reading books is fine, but 12 times?!?!?! These books are a good foundation but you need to start focusing on playing more poker and learning from your mistakes. You would be much better if you play a lot of poker with the knowledge you have from the books and than analyze your play with poker tracker. |

Re: Best way to learn poker? Yearly Plan Report
Mmm, I have a comment... the thing that will help you the most is field experience, I think. You plan to get in 20 000 NL hands this year? I've got 30 000 in the last 15 days ... that's where the most learning happens
I realize that amount is not possible for most people who have other things to do, but my point is that practice should comprise 90%+ of your learning about poker. |

BTW, the secret to sucess in poker (and other things) is not practice, practice, practice... it is Research, Practice, Analyze, Repeat. [/ QUOTE ] This is the key to everything in life, quite frankly, including interpersonal relationships. The only differences are really the methods of research and practice. |
