Nice work. I'm pulling out some old CDs based on some of these suggestions, plus checking out some new artists. Some of the ones listed that would definitely make my list based on what I had in mind:

Joanna Newsom
Meg White
Joni Mitchell
Margo Timmins
Sarah McLachlan
Dido

Guys don't really fit the criteria I had in mind, but if I were to include them, Chris Martin would definitely be on the list.
