Default So is Party et. al. Reading my whole hardrive and screen buffer?

OK, there's some stories out there circulating that...

1) The Party code (or other poker rooms) is scanning my directories for bot code?

2) That they are capturing my *whole* screen?

Do these poker room softwares actually have coded into them the ability to send my entire hard drive back to Costo Rica or where ever?

(Geez, now they have all my downloaded strategy web pages! LOL!)

Seriously though, is this what't going on?

According to the T&C, yes, they can do those things.

Computers are cheap. Build a separate box containing nothing but an OS, poker site software, and a web browser. Run everything else on your main system.

I really don't see how Party can be capturing your WHOLE screen without your noticing. The uploading of a dual 1600x1200 screenshot would do more than LAG me, it'd bring my connection to a slowdown. I really just don't think viewing your screen or files in whole is feasible physically for most users.

I can see them having code to look for specific files, or running processes, or window titles for know cheating software. But I have doubts about them even scanning your entire hard drive for programs, and finding a way to verify what a found program is. And taking a screen dump then caring enough to pay a human to look at your screen without first having a computer identify likely cheating software? I really don't think so.

Here I go guessing again

my guess is that they take a screen shot every X mins like maybe every 5 or 15 mins and at a low res so as not to make your cpu whimper like a dog that just been beat.

my second guess is that they monitor your process's to see the names of applications that are open.

my third guess is that they probably have a profile that you need to fit into in order to warrant this and other additional premium services like a keylogger device to see if you are relaying info to your friends on AOL, MSN, Yahoo etc... or punching in info from your cards to a program....

I get a verification window everytime I play now, apparently their profile picks up the fact that my windows are positioned mechanically by MTH and that I rarely ever touch a button with my pointer unless I feel like it. Add to that the fact that I play like a platinum rock and it all looks very robotic I guess. I wish wish wish I knew how to build one... J/K

Just Guessing

You are voluntarily giving Party 100% control over your computer.

For the typical user...
They probably run just basic checks...
See if your logging in from multiple machines...
Scan your task manager for whats running...
And scan for very specific commercial programs...
Or very specific behavior that fits a Bot profile.

If you are making money...
(Nobody will care if you are losing money)...
And they flag your behavior as "unnatural"...
They will target you and expand their analysis...
And take screen shots only as required.

Don't underestimate the sophistication...
Of their India based software engineers.
They are probably smarter than 90% of Bot builders...
Who brag about "throwing together" a Bot in a few days.

They probably get a lot of "false positives"...
Meaning they wrongly accuse people of nonspecific "cheating"...
And, offshore, Party can just grab the cash at will.
Actually, EBay also behaves in a totally autocratic manner...
Because there are no specific laws or regulations...
That apply to auction sites.

Are ya gonna sue EBay or Party?
EBay sure doesn't care about their reputation...
Monopolies never do.

EBay just sends another 100 lobbyists to Washington...
To spread the cash around.

On the bright side...
It's fairly straightforward to build 100% undetectable Bots...
You just need to be a serious minded software engineer...
With enough experience to build commercial quality software.

I suspect they do not a) scan your hard drive or b) take screen shots. I don't see what they would gain by doing either of those things and the costs performance-wise don't seem worth whatever gain they might get.

I suspect they do scan the programs currently running on your computer to see if you are running something they don't like.

Probably, huh? Your analysis and grammar sucks, but if you can revise this into iambic pentameter, you might have something.
