Have you ever seen Ricky Jay's act? I think he wrote a book, Playing Cards as Weapons, or something like that. He can puncture the skin of a watermelon with a card.

Even if you don't care for the card throwing, if you ever get a chance to see him, take advantage of it. He's terrifically funny and a fantastic magician. You've seen him in a lot of David Mamet's movies.

if we talking bout the same guy, then his been on this show on discovery channel called mythbusters. that one episode was about card throwing. he was also on the X-files a long while back

Default Automatic Shufflers and Dealer Abuse

I understand they're going to install the automatic shufflers in the top section room. I would think that would help with some of the dealer abuse since players are less apt to blame the dealer for dealing them losers with the automatic machine shuffling the cards.

My favorite line was uttered by one typical abuser at Commerce, who, after being rivered, asked the dealer, "All those cards left in the deck, you had to pick the 4 of clubs to give him?"

From playing at places with automatic shufflers, I have concluded that I love them and I was very disappointed when I was at Commerce recently that they didn't have them. However, from playing at places with automatic shufflers, I can also tell you that you have way too much faith in the rationality of people who are prone to do irrational things like blaming dealers when you guess that

These people also still ask the dealer to give the deck a "wash" before putting it in the machine if they are running bad and want a deck change, even though when using the machines, decks are alternated on every hand.

What limits are you talking about? At the upper limits, are players throwing cards and berating dealers for being slow and inept, or because they actually believe that dealers control what card comes next? It boggles my mind that someone could play 100-200 and still have that attitude.

We (or at least snakehead at mike l. who plays those limits) are lucky they have those beliefs since it is correlated to poor play. Let them keep the attitude but lets control the behaviors

Andy,

In my experience they do seem to cut down on abuse. I'm surprised that Commerce top section is taking so long to install the machines. I'm especially surprised that Hollywood Park only has a few machines. They just have to be plus EV for the clubs and the better players (I estimate you get about four more hands per hour). That said, the machines may be in short supply and it may only be a matter of time before we see even more widespread use.

Society definition of "crazy" or "genius" is the level of success. Just because they have the $ to play 100-200 doesn't mean they are going to keep it.

Default A question for snakehead

I am sure you have plenty of experience playing with JJ since you both play very high.

I have had just a few experiences with him since I don't play as high as you guys, a few times 100/200 at the Park and 10/20 no limit at the Mecca.

So one time while playing 10/20 no limit with him, he bought in for like 10 dimes, I think he was bored with the 400/800 game or maybe running bad and we tangoed a few times.

Everytime we got involved in a pot, which was like 3, he always put me to the test, having me play for my entire stack (~3,000). Now I know he is an action player, based on what you know of his play, was he playing back at me or he probably had the goods? Each time, I folded to his bets.

I could give you more specifics on the hands if you are interested.

On a side note, I had heard that he is such a degenerate that he uses jewelery as collateral or as straight payment, so how many pieces of JJ's jewelery do you own?
