Default definition of a live straddle?

This question came up at the cardroom where I deal.

Some guys who deal at another nearby casino came in and played and were pretty pissed off that there is a no straddle rule. I don't know why the casino has a no straddling rule, it's just a stupid thing that was in the rules when they started the casino and don't want to change the rules. Anyway, when people want to straddle and are then told they can't they decide to raise blind when they are under the gun, but they don't get the option to raise when it comes back around to the big blind, which is fine.

The dealers that came in said that any type of blind raise under the gun is a straddle, so blind raises shouldn't be allowed. The casino said they would look into it, and if raising blind under the gun is indeed a straddle, there will be no blind raises allowed. So, could the casino possibly keep people from raising blind?

Any casino run by nits THAT [censored] BIG is not a casino I want to play at.

And no, they won't be able to stop blind raising. If they find some ass backwards way of doing it...leave.

How in the world is anyone going to prevent someone from raising blind? That is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. So the casino is going to make the UTG player look at his cards before he raises? wtf?

Yep, and then he has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he would have raised UTG with those cards even if he hadn't intended to straddle in the first place.

The way it's played in Tunica (from what I've seen) is you can straddle and the difference between a live straddle and just raising the blinds UTG is if you live straddle then you STILL get the option to raise. So there is a differnce.

raising utg is still considered a straddle, but it's considered a "dead straddle" and you don't get the option to raise. ie read the earlier of this thread.

It is actually due to the "no straddling rule" that live and dead straddles had to be differentiated. In a live straddle the UTG player posts a blind raise, and then has the option to raise again when the action gets back around. Its almost like a "bigger blind."

However, in places that don't allow live straddles, there is no way to stop people from raising blind. However, if no one else raises the UTG player will not get the option to raise again when the action gets around to him. Since the player has no further action it is called a "dead straddle."

Hopefully this clears it all up.

Disallowing a dead straddle is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. What's with these idiot dealers/floor that can't just use a little bit of common sense?

Everytime you play some place with staff like that you are allowing it to continue. Why would a casino hire competant staff when they have games using whoever will work the cheapest?
