Default ideal casino times

what are the best times to go to a casino? is it early in the day,(do only regulars play at those times?) evening, late night? when do most recreational players and tourists hit the cardrooms? does the time influence the quality of play?
late at night do people loosen up trying to "get even"?
any thoughts on this? what other factors affect table composition? holidays seem like an excellent time especially. any other times?

this might also fall under psychology, or even the internet forum. but since there are so many different people from different time zones online, B&M seems like a better choice.

I have heard that the wee hours of the morn are the best (3-4 AM). Players are either drunk or so sleep deprived that it affects their game.

Anybody confirm this?

Three hours before thru three hours after liquor is allowed to be served in your locale. This wouldn't apply where liquor is sold 24/7 but would generally mean between 10pm and 4am. Even where you can get drinks at any time these are the times when most recreational players are playing and drinking. This is my personal experience, of course, but I've spent a lot of hours in b&m's and the games are best during these hours, at least for me.

The other posters here may be correct to say that games are always good, but the game types certainly do change throughout the day/week.

You may have to investigate your particular casino to see what happens when, but I can tell you a little about mine:

Weekdays: Day usually starts with the daily noon tournament which draws in one or two tables of old rocks. tight seniors hour continues until school gets out and some weak passive kids show up. after work or after dinner it gets busier which always means quality of play goes down. On tues. & thurs., the 60 player tournies fill the casino with poker players, and the side games are stuffed with busted tourney players that have a wide range of skills and styles.

Weekends: The best time is always a weekend night, stay for a while over a few different nights to see what times are right for your casino. It gets busy and gets LAGGY and people from all walks of life show up for some gambling (and often drinking) fun. Weekend afternoons can be good as well, where many casual players and tourists make an event of going to the casino. Mornings tend to be a transition between the players that were up all night and the players that come at 6 or 8 am for some reason. Actually its probably a good time to play as well, keeping fresh while the sleepy players start screwing up. Many of the better players will be up all night trying clean out the last of the tourists, but everyone gets tired and 5am or later is probably a good time to take advantage of this.

Any holdays or big events in the city bring in even more rich donks, (obviously) either calling stations or lags.

I'm not sure whether individual people are looser later at night as you have suggested, but games certainly become looser as more people crowd the casino. However, when more and more tables get filled you have an increased chance for table selection and can look for what you want.

hopefully this answers some of your questions

Virtually without exception, and particularly in vegas and AC, the time to go is very late swing, and graveyard. Drunks, morons, and let's not forget the stubborn stuck idiots, they are all there, and in force. But mostly it's the drunks that do it.

Sleep 9am-5pm. Eat dinner and watch some tube till about nine. Start scouting game about nine to ten-ish. Play till dawn, and beyond if the drunks don't leave. When people start drinking coffee, and the average age starts being 57 years old plus, you're screwed, go back to bed and play again "tomorrow."

Al is exact with his advice.

I play in Vegas strictly weekends from 12am-1am thru 9-10am. I don't play mid-day or early evening, everyone either is sober or just woke up.

edit: I also recommend going to casinos the weekend of the 15th and 30th of every month. People have just gotten paid and now that they have some $$ to sit on, they tend to play a little looser. Just from my experience these immediate weekends are juicy. So if the 15th of the month is a Friday, I will go right after the workday ends and play all night.

The wee hours of the morning aren't that great in my experience. Most people still up are trying to get even and play somewhat tighter. Also, tables are dissolving and consolidating as people leave. Lots of tables are shorthanded which makes it very difficult to overcome the rake at low limits (3/6 & 4/8).

The best time to play is Friday evenings/nights from 6pm - 1am, Saturday afternoon/evening, and Sunday afternoons - my personal favorite as lots of people are paying more attention to football than the poker game (at least this time of year) and drinking like the fish they are.
