Default Compensating for split pots.......

Lets say there is a pot giving you 14:1 odds on the river. You know you are either beat or spliting. What is the math for calculating if it's ok to call or not? #lose vs. # split needed to call.

If you know you cannot win the whole pot, you should just split your pot odds in half. So, you would have 7-1 odds to call. I think a general formula would be,
Pot odds must be greater than = 1/2*percantage of time you split + percantage of time you win.

That would only work if you were drawing to a split.

No it works anytime you feel your calling for half the pot.

Let's say its a 200 pot and it's 20 for you to call. The pot is offering you 10-1 on a call so you have to be right 1 time in 10 to make this a profitable call. That is 9 times you lose 20 and 1 time you win 200 for a net gain of 2 dollars per call.

If the pot is again 200 dollars and it costs you 20 dollars to call, however this time you know you will either lose or split then the odds on your call are now 5-1. Meaning if you split 1 in 5 times then 4 times you will lose 20 and 1 time you win half the pot for 100. Net gain 20 dollars.
