Default Re: Tunica hotel on short notice?

Hi MicroBob,

Thanks a thousand for taking the time to provide us with all of this information! I'm one of the 5 going with MCS to Tunica this weekend. We will in fact have a car but one thing we'll have to keep in mind is staying sober enough to drive which may be a bit of task for those of us who go crazy when drinks are free.

thanks again for all the advice.

that's obviously good that you have a car.

with a car you can stay at any of the hotels and should do okay.

while i respect your intentions to stay safe and not drive while totally hammered there are two things I'd like to point out:

1. It's not THAT far from one place to another (not exactly SAFE....but it's a far cry from driving up and down Highway 61 after a long night at the casinos...which is pretty much what EVERYONE else does).

2. Driving while drunk is actually considered a mild form of recreation in Mississippi.

Seriously though...just one of you stop drinking in time so that you can make the drive back to the hotel.

I'm not kidding about so many people driving while hammered.

When i was a blackjack dealer at Bally's I was usually driving home at 2am and it could be a scary experience on any given night heading back to Memphis on Highway 61.

Some pick-up truck flying past you at 90mph or just weaving all over the place ain't my idea of a good time.

I know a few different dealers who have been in car wrecks on their way home from Tunica (usually between 2 and 4am) including a couple who had to be hospitalized.

We had one person in one of the dealing classes who was killed...pretty sure there have been several others.

Call 800-303-7463 X-5760. Last time I checked rooms were still available for the tourney at $49 a night. You'll either talk to Laura or Carol. Tell them Todd sent you.

When me & 2 other friends were there we stayed at the Red Roof Inn about 20 miles from Tunica, closer to the main highway (not sure which one), just south of Memphis but Eastward of Tunica.

If you have a car I recommend not staying in casino-town. You can stay 15-20 min away and the driving will be no problem and save 1/2 or more on a room.

We drove 7 hours from Chicago so we really could give a S--t about the 20 min to and from the casino to the hotel.

We got rooms at the Horseshoe poker rate (they're located at the Grand). I'm pretty stoked about this trip.

Thanks so much for the help to everyone who responded, especially MicroBob. I will be asking you all to stake me soon.
