Beating the Rake at 5/10 B&M?
How good do you have to be to have a positive expectation at 5/10 B&M? My impression from various posts I have read is that it is tough to beat a rake of 10% to a $5 max at anything less than 10-20. Still, unless I play online, I can't find a rake of less than that in my area. Should I not play 5/10 or less live, and just work on my game via other methods until I am ready for 10-20? Should I just try 10-20? Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Beating the Rake at 5/10 B&M?
It depends on how bad the players are, and how good you are. 5-10 is definitely beatable with that rake if it plays like a typical LL game. If there are a bunch of decent players in the game that you have a small edge over, and only a few bad players, it might be tough to win much.

Re: Beating the Rake at 5/10 B&M? - Harrah\'s in Chicago?
Robk,
Thanks for your response. I too am in Chicago - under your analysis, do you consider the 5/10 at Harrah's in East Chicago, IN generally beatable, or no? Thanks, Sargon |

Re: Beating the Rake at 5/10 B&M?
I can beat 1-5 stud games here in Vegas with a $5 maximum rake (actually, $6 with a jackpot drop) without much problem. All the 3-6 and 4-8 games on the strip are easily crushable and they have a $4 rake with the jackpot drop included.

I have actually never been there, so I can't answer your question. But 2 + 2 er rhwbullhead plays there regularly. I'm sure he could tell you about the games if you send him a PM or something. |
