Why Play Satellites?

Is there a good reason to play satellite tournaments? The only reason I can think of are that you like the payout structure, and maybe the players are crappier.

My point is, why not just enter a cheap tourney with a $10k top prize and call that your "WSOP seat" in your mind that you're trying to get into cheap. That way, you have the freedom of actually liquidating the seat if you need to.
