Default 10/20 no-limit: Everyone has a Poison Heart

I had just sat down to a full table. This was about the fourth hand I was dealt. I was on the button, all folded to me with 88. I casually toss in 5 chips, making a rise to $50; I have $1,000. Small blind folded and the big blind makes it $50 more, he has me covered. He does not know me at all and obviously I do not know him at all.

What's your move in this situation?

Consider three different scenarios: A, B, and C.

A. You are not only a complete unknown you will be leaving the table in about 3 hours to catch a plane out of the cesspool of a city you have been trapped in and will not have to look at these droll maggots, whinny sheep, unthinking wannabes, deranged youngsters, dilapidated old men, and poisoned hearted people ever again.

B. You are in town for at least a month or more and plan on playing extensively with these maggots and it is guaranteed that you well be playing against everyone now present at the table for long periods of time.

C. Let's say you make a guess and think he will do a re-raise with any Ax, or maybe Kx.

I toss in $50 more and raise him all-in if I hit an 8, fold if I don't. All scenarios.

Sounds good, I think I might do that too.

All scenarios.

Same here. Plus if he is a tricky player who raised you with a low pair or a suited connector and you reraise, he may play back at you big to make you fold, in addition to the times he actually has a big pp and will raise you off a chance to flop a set and bust him.

Ok, Thanks El.

I am going to assume it is good that my thinking was about the same.

No matter how many ways I look at A, B and C, this is what I come up with, too.

A, I am leaving soon: call.

B, I am going to be a regular: reraise. fold to a push. as I muck, flash an 8.

C, the BB is a maniac: reraise. Pot flop if called.
