California players are basically so wild that these discussions of jackpot chasing comp demanding local nits don't apply there at all.

its so baffling for me to play poker in nevada because its not capped to me everytime i have the button. while the california games are much more "profitable" in the long run, the players really know how to make your life difficult, while in vegas i ran into little or no resistance the entire time.

One thing noone has mentioned is to watch out for games with half blinds accompanied by any sort of jackpot. Small blinds are ideal for the call/check down strat.

Al in your discription of the Jackpot chassing bozos you forgot to mention their inability to do basic math. They are a pain in the ass but likely good for the game overall if you can stand sitting with them.

I am more of a live tournament player in the midwest (although I ply live NL cash in wisonsin). At Canterbury last June, the jackpot got so high they stopped all tournaments for a month. Fortunately there are enough tribal poker barns, so it wasn;t too much of a problem.

But this is one reason I don't like jackpots. Another reason is they are one more $1 out of each pot. And yet another is becaue when I play cash games it's always the table next to me that gets it

the Minneapolis scene with Canterbury really doesn't fit the stereotype of jackpots either.

We, of course, are full of local nits, but they don't get too nitty, even when it's over 100K -

There are a lot more 2/4 games and almost no stud when that goes on, and people may joke about limping in with a jackpot hand, but no one gets pissed if someone bets/raises - we don't check it down -

interesting though, - Wynn's staff is essentially old Canterbury staff - wonder how they know what it will do -

(In defense of the players at the table, the BBJ was at an Arizona record setting high of over 230,000)

Ahh, that must have been at Fort McDowell. The players in that room can be strange that way. You wouldn't have had that experience at Casino Arizona, where I assume you mean to go from now on.
