Default Pocket Jacks, lost half my stack...

In a home tourney Saturday the following happened to me. Dealt pocket Jacks UTG, I call call the BB. There was no preflop raise with 3 players in the hand. The flop is 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] . I come out with a $400 bet. Player to my left calls as does BB. Turn is a 10 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] , I check, hoping for someone bet with A9 or A10... Checks around the table. River is a 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] . I bet again 400, and again I get called from both players. I show my pocket jacks, player to my left shows A9 as I predicted, what does the BB roll over to beat me?

I predict that he showed a hand that would have folded to a preflop raise of approx 3xbb.

If not, then he played it worse than you did...

You limped with JJ UTG and got what was coming to you.

Agreed. What's the point of limping with pocket jacks? especially UTG. did you even want to win the pot? terrible. also, we have no idea what blinds were or stack sizes.

This is in the wrong forum. The mod should lock this so the OP can't drag this bad beat story out.

Philosophical question -- if you misplay the hand and then lose is it really a bad beat?

Raise the jacks preflop. And we need blind sizes to know what he could have. If the blinds are high, you could be betting a quarter of the pot, and he could have anything. And don't check the turn. But I am sure this has all been said.
