Default Qualifying day tournament play................give me your opinions

I am playing in a tournament that has 2 qualifying days with 2 sessions a day of approx. 100 players per session. each one of the sessions will be taking the top 20% and they will go to the final day and the top 30 will get paid. Anyway, im looking for some input from everyone as to how to approach the "qualifying" play and only having to make it down to 20% (approx. 20 to 24 players) Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone has!!!!!

Do chip totals carry over? If not this would involve standard satelite play.
If they do standard tourney play.

then play it like a sat. survival would be more important in the middle stages than it normally would. Chip accumulation isn't of as great an importance, etc...
