Default DeLay former aide pleads to conspiracy

Forget DeLay who's a very sick duck by now. This could have some wider implications on gambling, Indian-style.

WASHINGTON (CNN) November 22, 2005 -- Michael Scanlon, a former top aide to Rep. Tom DeLay and a onetime partner of high-powered Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff, pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge Monday.

As part of the deal with the Justice Department, Scanlon agreed to testify against Abramoff in a probe that also has implicated at least one member of Congress.

Scanlon was charged Friday with one count of conspiracy as part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation of his and Abramoff's lobbying activities.

As part of the plea agreement with federal prosecutors, Scanlon admitted plotting to ... corruptly influence federal officials.

Among the high-profile clients of Scanlon and Abramoff were Indian tribes that wanted political access in Washington. CNN

I thought the piece was not only bad for Abramoff (and by implication, DeLay), but lobbyists in general.

I disagree that it'll harm Indian Tribes and/or their casinos. They seem to be the object of Scanlon's ridicule and deceit. Hell, I think they've got a pretty good case for suing the guys they hired.
