It would probably help. I think that when dealing with graphics cards using the same brand of card is preferable. If your nvidia card can support both monitors, it's worth a shot.

I am running 98

so that might be the problem

Windows 98 has serious problems with memory management. You should definitely upgrade.

Are you auto-rating players when you auto-import HHs? That will mess with things quite a bit.
