Default Advice

I need some sports betting advice from the knowledge base here.

In Australia
The Rugby league Grand final is on this weekend.

A few weeks ago I placed a $10 on a rubgy team to win the Grand Final, it was paying $15 for the dollar bet.

The final is on this weekend and they are in it. I am set to win $150. If they win.

My question is should I place a hedge bet on the other team so I can't lose. It will reduce my return if my team wins but it will put me in a position to win no matter what.

The other team is paying $1.70 and I am thinking of placing $50 on them to win.

If they win I collect $35. If my team wins I collect $100

should I do this or just hope my team wins and I collect $150?

thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I know there is a sports betting forum, but I have more respect for the zoo than the sports betting forum.

Dink

I have cross posted it.

If you want to guarantee a win, make the hedge bet. If you want to take the chance on having a bigger win, don't make the hedge bet. Nobody can answer this FOR you, they can only say what they would do.

If it were me, I would make the hedge bet. But I like the idea of locking up a guaranteed win and STILL having an interest in the outcome.

The math, however, says to avoid the hedge (assuming the teams are pretty much even)...

If the over-round on the market is low 102% or less, and the prices fairly reflect the merits of the teams in your opinion, then it might be worth making a hedge. If those conditions are not met though I would stick with what I have.

Go and put your house on the Cowboys. They are certainties to win.

The experience of losing in the Prelim last year will hold them in good stead. Tigers have no Finals experience.

Go Cowboys!!!!!!!
