Trying to strengthen my ability to read, and to apply those reads.
Villain (webslinger) had been limping preflop with several bad hands, folding to small raises preflop, and if he called would often bet a small amount if the action was checked to him, no matter what he held.

Move allin preflop. [/ QUOTE ] or definately do more than min-raise if you are going to play this pot...folding is not a bad option either |

If I had a read that told me he would fold for a much smaller raise, why would I go all-in?

Re: Trying to strengthen my ability to read, and to apply those reads.
Because your hand is too strong, your raise is too small to get almost anything to fold, and if you raise any more than minimum you have to put all your chips in anyway as you only have 740 left. Important to apply maximum pressure now. |

If I had a read that told me he would fold for a much smaller raise, why would I go all-in? [/ QUOTE ] Because you should also have a "read" that the BB is going to be forced in on this hand, and thus you'll be giving your villain almost 4:1 to see a flop, without the opportunity to raise more preflop. No matter how prone he is to folding, he's not doing it here. Beyond that, people don't limp and fold to minraises, even if they like folding, especially if he has 2.5 times your stack. -Phoenix |

Re: Trying to strengthen my ability to read, and to apply those reads.
Minraising preflop here = dumb. Push preflop 100% of the time. You've only got 7x BB. That's not enough to play postflop by any stretch of the imagination.
