Do you give ANY value to a players screen name?
I know this has been posted back a couple months ago, but at the smaller stakes (not micro) I have noticed some fairly constant attributes based on screen names. This applies mainly to no limit bc I think you can learn more about a player (short term) in NL that one could in a regular limit game. Some names in question are:
pot smoking names (potsmoker420, imhighallday etc..) misleading losing names (loser4life, bornloser etc..) celeb names (phellmuth, doyle4life ect..) drinking names ( anything to do with alcohol) this list could go on for a while, but I think you get the idea.. I’m not trying to prejudicially tag players based on their SN, but I have seen in many cases some clear-cut examples of these assumptions playing true. I would like to hear everyone’s thoughts/experiences/theories/whatever on this subject. The screen names listed above are made up names, but I think you should get the idea. |

Anybody with a name that contains "fish" is a red flag for me.

Re: Do you give ANY value to a players screen name?
When I started playing online a few years ago I didn't have much to go on besides screen names and hand historiess. This is what I came up with:
Big- He thinks he's going to intimidate in an online game, if its in all caps he's even worse. Dawg- Anyone with this as pat of his name is really bad. If his name Big Dawg he's a really poor player, or worse BIGDAWG 69-Anyone who finds this number even mildly amusing is a moron. MR AA- Anyone with a hand as part of their name. Yes he gets dealt AA more than you. Exception, if its bad hand, 4-7 offsuit, this guy can play. DavenJen-Need I say more, this guy is a loser. Thats all I can remember off the top of my head. |

If somebody's name is BigJohnson, 9incher, or something along those lines, it's usually a sign he has a small penis.

No. To do so would be a waste of my precious few brain cells.
I do, however, choose ridiculous screenames sometimes just for people like you. =] |

I used to assume people with fish, or fishy type names like tuna would be decent, cause at least they knew the term.
Turns out to be almost the opposite in my experience. Granite |

There's a guy at one of my tables typing in all caps right now with the screen name "sthurmond." Either this guy is incredibly savvy or a moron. I'm leaning toward the latter.

Players with "Rounders" related names are usually not very good.
Sorry TeddyFBI. No insult intended. |
