StrFlush Draw vs Bully gone bad
I was in the 1 2 no-limit game tonight at the Golden Nugget in downtown Vegas and thought this hand was interesting. I'm fairly new to no-limit, and would appreciate some feedback on this, because I wasn't sure how to play it.
Full table of 10 people. UTG Limps. He was a tight player who knows how to play pretty well. 300 stack Guy just to his left limps. He seemed to be avg player, not especially passive or aggresive. 200 stack Everyone folds to SB who raises to 10. He was Bully and has been frequently raising preflop to 10 or 20. He has about 600. I have QsJs in BB and call. I have 450$ UTG calls. Next guy calls. Flop comes Ts 9s 7d. I like it, have straight flush draw with 2 overcards. Bully checks. I decide to try and build the pot a little and bet 15$ at it, small bet considering it was a $40 pot. I think this was a mistake because the bully smelled weakness--see below. UTG calls, other guy calls, and then bully raises to $105. Now what do I do? I thought I had a positive EV situation, but I didnt want to bust out there. Game was good and I wanted to keep playing and wait for better opportunities. I guess this is what he was counting on. He probably knew I had a big draw when I bet 15 at it. Anyway, I folded. I'm thinking I either should have checked behind him on the flop, or made a pot size bet. Comments? |

Re: StrFlush Draw vs Bully gone bad
Ughh..don't fold unless your sure he has a set. You are ahead of every holding with the exception of 1010,99,33.
I push here. Or at least call, although calling puts you in an akward spot. Stacks are somewhat deepish, so a push shows your opponent that you have a strong holding. I don't mind getting my money in with the OE SFD. |

Re: StrFlush Draw vs Bully gone bad
I didn't like the prospect of calling. Chances are that I was going to miss on the turn, then he would probably push all in. I wouldn't be getting the right odds to call on turn. So I was either going to go all in on the flop or fold.
I was also a little worried about the the bully or one of the other guys having a bigger spade draw. I admit it was a chicken panzee wuss play, but I thought I'd have better opportunites to double up than this one. Also, I messed up orig post. Other card was 7d, not 3d, so straights were also possible. |

Re: StrFlush Draw vs Bully gone bad
Though straights are possible you make the nut straight on both ends of your draw, and having those 2 cards which make the straight are less likely holdings.
Even completely discounting the overcard outs you have enough equity to push this even against pocket A's with one of your suit and given the pot size this seems like a push to me. 37,461,507 games 43.052 secs 870,145 games/sec Board: Ts 9s 7d Dead: equity (%) win (%) tie (%) Hand 1: 52.6364 % 52.65% 00.00% { QsJs } Hand 2: 47.3636 % 47.37% 00.00% { AcAs } Is it too optimistic to not discount diamond outs others may have? |

Re: StrFlush Draw vs Bully gone bad
I don't think you understand how strong your OESF draw with 2 overcards was. I would push over the check-raise. If I were UTG, I would fold the nut flush draw and bottom set after this action.

You need to show aggression if you want to give them a chance to fold. Push, watch the bully turbomuck, and pick up a nice pot. |

Re: StrFlush Draw vs Bully gone bad
You bet $15 to get money in the pot...and then someone helped you out and added $100 more to the pot, and you folded? aye, push

I didnt want to bust out there. Game was good and I wanted to keep playing and wait for better opportunities. [/ QUOTE ] This is where you made your mistake. You have to be willing to push in this situation, no questions asked. Bully is just being a bully, so I'm not sure what you are afraid of. When you put out the $15 bet, I was already hoping Bully would raise so that you could go all-in. |
