Re: Evidence AGAINST Christianity
Genesis 11: 5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. 6 The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."
8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel [c] —because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth. So the Lord confused the language of the whole world. To me, this implies that there were no people in certain parts of the world. The Lord put them there and gave them their seperate languages. Does it imply something different to you? Also, who is "us" when the Lord says, "Come, let us go down..."? |

We've been through this in other threads. Those are easily explainable when placed in the proper context. [/ QUOTE ] You wanted evidence against Christianity. You believe the Bible 100%. There is A LOT of stuff in those links. Some can be explained, some are misunderstandings, but a LOT still remain unanswered. I'd like to see your rational(*) explanations to all of the absurdities, contradictions, and historical & scientific conflicts in the Bible. In the words of Chez, please don't cop out again. (*) rational -- what an intelligent person would consider plausible |

Re: Evidence AGAINST Christianity
My point was that the Bible doesn't say that man is incapable of developing languages. If you have a point go ahead.

Re: Evidence AGAINST Christianity
1. The smarter the person, the less likely he is to be a Christian.
2. Because the world's major religions believe share opposing beliefs, each is an underdog to be right. These are powerful arguments against the specific beliefs of any religion. Name me ANY subject where the above two things apply where you would bet even money on one opinion against the field. I resort to those arguments a lot because I'm not knowledgeble about any religions specifics. When you claim that if I studied Christianity I would change my mind I can't prove you wrong because I'm not going to go to the trouble. But you are at least 99.999% to be wrong However I can point to other anti religious evidence. For instance the fact that there has never been a well documented miracle. Or the fact that the universe works by complicated but logical mechanisms totally unneeded by a god who could "speak us into existence". etc. etc. Remember that unlike the atheists on this forum, I say that God was the more rational choice up to about 100 years ago. And if you really believe that the words of the bible are 100% true, does that mean that you think the Earth is 6000 years old? |

My point was that the Bible doesn't say that man is incapable of developing languages. If you have a point go ahead. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not asking what YOU'RE point is. I'm asking what the bible is saying. Did ALL men on planet earth speak the same language before the Tower of Babylon; And did God interrupt this single common language and introduce different languages in order that people wouldn't understand each other? Is this what the bible contends? That one day everyone spoke the same language and the next day, people were speaking all the different languages of the different lands that God sent them to? Again, let's leave your points and my points out of this for now. I just want to know your interpretation of the bible regarding this "miraculous" event. |

[/ QUOTE ] I certainly don't disagree with this, though I'd probably push it back a little from 100 years. I'd be surprised if some of the other regular posters like Kid or Chez do. |
