I haven't seen Coltrane's A Love Supreme mentioned though which if you dig MFT I think you'll love. |

If you like that coltrne lbum, check out some dave Brubeck, specifically, 'time out'... also, as another poster mentioned, try coltrane's 'a love supreme'

[/ QUOTE ] i think before he steps off into those waters, he should get familiar with some more stuff in the vein of mft and other hard bop/early 60s jazz just so he has some more background. A love Supreme can be very confusing to someone who isn't completely familiar with what trane is doing there |

If you want something very accessible yet great, Maiden Voyage by Herbie Hancock. You'll get the greatest technical trumpeter of the last 60 years at his absolute peak.
