Antique Guns

I know a good bit about guns but I purchased a few 1800/early 1900 guns today that I actually know little to nothing about. I know enough about guns to know I wasn't gettin robbed blind...but im still curious. Does anyone here have any knowledge in this area before I go through the trouble of posting what they are?

I am taking them to a gun store to have them cleaned up and apprasied ASAP but since I have a busy week I wanted to see if anyone here could help out...Im gonna try and search for them as well...but this was worth a shot.

I wrapped them up in sheep skin and towels at my moms house on my way back here...so I will go unwrap them so I can get the info from them and post pictures if needed and ill check back here to see if I even need to list what they are.

and a winchester model 55 single shot thats not that important b/c its a 1950ish i believe....but it came staight out of the winchester museum so even though its not as unique and costly as the others its in super excellent shape

The 2 french ones have alot of elaborate etchings in the wood and metal and im pleased with the condition they are in...they both have the original loading sticks as well

If the gun store doesn't deal with antiques on a regular basis or know you well, I wouldn't bother with it. They'll just try to look it up in the Blue Book of Gun Values & tell you what it says. You could do the same if your library has a copy.

no...they do deal with antiques there alot and its a guy that knows my dad as well (who most of these guns are a gift for for xmas) so i feel more comfortable having him look at them and clean them up for me than anyone

If that's the situation then you should be fine. I just get sickened when I read a story of how Joe Random asks a gun shop how much a firearm is worth & is told "I'll give you $300 for it" when it's really worth $2,000.

I’m not real big on black powder but the shotgun looks like a common “no-name” field piece, and the musket looks like a “napoleon” but it’s hard to tell.

The .32 is most likely a railroad or police issue service arm, this was a very common handgun - lots and lots of these were made. I used to buy them from estates for around $50.

The Winchester model 55, is it a top loading single shot with bottom ejection, 22 inch round barrel? Is there a serial number? If it’s what I think it is there were around 45,000 were MFG between 1958-1961 according to my Winchester book. They go for around $175

im not takin it to RESALE it...when i buy older things or guns they are for personal use...but i didnt want to give a "gun collector" something that is not up to thier standards when its not an area i know a ton of about...this is the purpose
