Imperial Grunts
Posted FWIW.
For the past several years I've looked forward to articles writen by Robert Kaplan for Atlantic Monthly. His latest is "Imperial Grunts", excerpted from the book with the same title. A link to the magazine article can be accessed from the first posted link. Worth a read IMHO. ~ Rick |

Robert Kaplan makes sense
Even when he is writing clearly from a neo-imperialist point of view, Robert Kaplan writes with smarts, knowledge and lucidity. Traits that are sorely missing from the current administration.
(For some background on that situation, one should check the history of the relationship between Washington and the American academic-scientific community. On a downward slope since Nixon. But the pits, it is, now.) |

I'm moderately conservative but now I'm starting to agree. [/ QUOTE ] Glad to hear that. Perhaps there is hope for the Republican Party being rescued from the idiots presently in power. Would love to vote Republican in the 2012 elections. |

Re: Robert Kaplan makes sense
I read Kaplan's book Eastward To Tartary and, while I also am not down with a lot of his politics, I thought it was very well written and informative (although the title is horrible).
Will have a look at these when I have time, thanks Rick for posting them. |

Re: Imperial Grunts
As an aside Kaplan is making the rounds of radio talk shows. He's on Laura Ingram right now (KTLA 870 in LA).

Re: Robert Kaplan makes sense
Don't believe my friend Rick when he says he is "moderately" conservative. His favorite political commentator is Denis Prager, which make him slightly to the right of mayonnaise.

Oh yeah, Prager is center-conservative to most of us. And I'm listening to him right now. ~ Rick |
