After reading a good many recent posts I have a confession to make.........


When I see a bad player go to the ATM, get more money to re-load for round 2........

I don't feel sad. I feel joy.


Does that make me a bad person?



When an opponent at your table, who did NOT go to an ATM, loses a lot of money. How do you know THAT was not the rent money?


When a guy does go to the ATM, how do you know he's not rich?


Lot's of people don't like to carry a lot of cash on them. Big whip if a guy goes to an ATM. I don't see where it means a thing.


Am I missing something?


People who sit at your table are trying to win your chips. You are trying to win their chips. Everyone in a casino is of legal age. It's a card game. A card game played for chips. Most of the people I see at the tables everyday seem to be able to afford the stakes they choose to play (granted, 10-20 is as high as I play).



I don't see what's so bad about a guy going to an ATM to re-load. I don't see what's so bad about me feeling joy when a fish re-loads.

Anybody with me?

Or am I one step above an angle shooter on the scale of poker scum?

I do not think it makes you a bad person, and I do not think you are scum. I do not think you should feel obligated to feel bad for him. I do not think it means, 100% of the time, that he's losing his rent money.

But what I find interesting is that people (not you in this post) chastise me for feeling the way I do, instead of just accepting it, as I accept others' views. Some things I guess I'll never understand.

Some people will also consider me scum because I also like to see people reload when they lose their money. I don't care if they have to go to an ATM or borrow from a friend.

I don't feel bad for the person when I witness this transaction. I just hope, I can get some of the persons money.

I want to take the time here to point out a few things.

Everyone has their own agenda of why they play cards. I started playing three years ago with the intention of making a few extra bucks. It also falls in line with what I do for a living. I work on a small salary and most of my income comes from a monthly commission.

Some people play for recreation. Some people play because they need an outlet from their daily life. Some people play for action.

Everyone has their own reason for playing this game.

I do not think its fair to chastise someone who doesnt play for money. However I find it equally unfair to chastise someone who licks their chops when they witness a donator going to an ATM.

If Duke wants to play with the sole intention to measure his skill and talent against other players, thats wonderful.

As I stated earlier I like to play against inferior players, thats my overlay and how I make money.

It doesnt mean we cant all benefit from critiquing each others hands.

Hi Howard.
You're not scum for feeling joy when an adult makes a decision of his or her own free will. If someone reloads at the ATM it could be for reasons that range from wanting to continue having a good time to an out of control obsession.
Who knows. The only fact I am aware of is that an adult made a decision to continue playing.

i wish i owned the ATM. that way i could also get an extra $1.50 when he reloads.

i agree with your post. i feel fantastic if a guy goes to the ATM after blowing chips. only if it was a good buddy of mine, would i say something. but even then, it's his decision.

Nobody is forced to sit at a poker table. They play of their own free will.

Compassion has its place, but that place is not the poker table.

Here is my thought, maybe we should all have some Gamblers Anonymous Business cards printed up with a contact on the front and small list of symtoms on the back. Then when you sit down at the table just hand one to each person so that they no you care, then proceed to crush them [img]/forums/images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

I agree with you completely. While I certainly hope that everybody at the table is gambling with money they can lose without trouble, I'm not about to ask for a pay stub before I stack my chips.

I hope nobody feels bad about taking my money when I have a losing night. After all, if they bested me, they earned it.

I always have a problem when you're going good in a game, then some woman older than dirt rolls up to the table in a wheelchair hooked up to an oxygen tank. Talk about your guilt trips.
