Re: Have you ever made up a word that caught on?
I came up with the word taint. Anyone that tells you different is a liar.

Re: Have you ever made up a word that caught on?
me and a few friends have used a word and a few derivatives for about 8 years now. basically its out way of saying hot chick.
and this is the first time i'd ever spell it, so here it goes. shebaduh, pronounced just like that she-bah-duh so naturally a few derivatives followed. babebaduh (for the younger girls (dont worry i am already going to hell)) mommaduh- for the hot mommas |

Re: Have you ever made up a word that caught on?
[ QUOTE ]
my brother and i made up the word "jubblay" as in...thats jublay (good) or stop being so jublay etc..many uses Barron [/ QUOTE ] The phrase "lovely jubly" goes back a long way, although I guess using ther word by itself is original. I coined the phrase "donkbet" in a bout of politically-correct driven rage in opposition to the term "gaybet". |

Scudger - for a scumbag, thief, rotten teenage boy-type. Never caught on though.

Genglisch, for the horribly pronounced German my sisters learned in school.
I don't think it caught on though. |

Re: Have you ever made up a word that caught on?
[ QUOTE ]
about 7 years ago i said 'meh' on a message board, and now i hear people are beginning to use it in real life. [/ QUOTE ] They said "meh" on the simpsons in season 6 (1994), better luck next time n00b. It's not uncommon to hear something, tuck it in your subconscious, take it out, and think you invented that idea. Happens to me all the time. Then I go brag about this new great thing I just figured out (idea, word, concept, etc) to someone and they say they TOLD me about it awhile ago... |

Re: Have you ever made up a word that caught on?
I first used the word "ginormous" in 7th grade, which would have been 1984-5 I think.

[ QUOTE ]
d'oh! [/ QUOTE ] That originates from the 1930's, Laurel and Hardy films starring James Finlayson. See Way Out West for a suitable example. |
