With 4 to the flush on the board and it is heads-up and you are last to act I probably would've taken a shot at it and bet, but checking here isnt bad either.

I'm betting.

BB may have a A or K (thus the calling, and not too happy). A river bet may make BB fold. Checking is good (free showdown) and your hand may stand up.

Only bet on the river if you are SURE that you have the best hand.

On this board there is a flush possibility, and a possible pair of kings or aces out there.

By betting the river in this hand, you are going to have one of three outcomes... 1) You get called by a player who possibly has your hand well and truly beaten, or 2) you get check raised by a player who has your hand beat, or 3) your opponent, who has a lesser hand than you, folds their hand because the board has scared the bejeezes out of them.

Whatever the outcome, betting the river, most probably, will not earn you any more money, and by checking the river, you may have potentially saved one bet...

... the river check is fine...

Only bet on the river if you are SURE that you have the best hand.

If this is your typical river strategy, you are missing thousands of value bets.

The way BB played this hand, I doubt if he is folding many if any better hands. But even the loosest of players will probably fold most hands you beat here. I think this is a good check on the river.

Is my situation above cause for a value bet? I don't see how it could be.

Value bet the river when there is a very good possibilty that lesser hands will call your bet. In this situation you also need to be asking yourself will this be checked to me despite my being beat? There are a wide range of hands he could have that have you beat and he isnt likely to stick around without an A, K or diamond.

Value bet when there is a reasonable chance you have the best hand and a good chance that worse hands will call.

I know what a value bet is . I was just confused as to whether or not bison was saying this situation was, in fact, a value betting situation (which I don't think it is).

My bad Aviston, no offense intended.

FWIW I think he was just making the point that never betting the river unless your sure you have the best hand is a major leak.
