so it's sort of along the lines of check-calling the river with middle two pair. let them see that you feel uncomfortable leading out, so that they try to value-bet their TPTK.

I guess you could think of it that way. Being uncomfortable is also good because it shows you understand the implications of position, and that will hopefully lead you to using position correctly.
