Theoretical Question on knowing a marked card

First of all I wanna say I have never marked a card or even thought about it. I know I will get railed for this post but I was thinking about it the other day at work.

Let's say that there was one marked card in the deck, how much better do you think you would do in a single table tournament if you knew this card and your opponents did not.

I don't think it would be a huge advantage. Your seeing ~27 cards including the burn cards and the top card of the deck. So you'd know 1 extra card about half the time. It would make sense to mark a high card like the ace of spades for example as it's rare that you'll need to know if a deuce is in your opponents hand.

Depends on the card, a deuce will get mucked almost 100% of the time, so it won't affect the game much, and ace could make the difference in a big pot.

Maybe I'm just a donk, but I call the floor 100% of the time. I don't play for a living, thus I wouldn't want to think that maybe I did better than I should have due to something like this. It would taint my perception of the outcome, thus I don't want it.

I was playing in a tournament once (freeroll P.O.S tourney for fun) and there was this 1 idiot at the table (actually a bunch of idiots at most tables, but one particularly obnoxious one) who was like the most paranoid idiot ever.

He was constantly yelling at everyone to keep their cards on the table and intensly watching everyone shuffle and cut, like the big card sharks in town would hang out in a freeroll tournament for bar cash.

You could just tell the guy had seen Rounders one too many times.

Anyway he like thinks some of the cards are marked and shows the table one as an example and hadn't even looked at it and when we checked it's like the 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and I was like "If someone really needs to know where the 4's are that bad I'm not worried about them"

I'm assuming you're talking about a situation where you notice a marked card and decide to take advantage of it. The card may have been marced intentionally or accidentally creased or whatever. If it's an ace, knowing this card could give you and edge. The question is, has anybody else noticed it? Did someone mark it deliberately? The safest thing to do, as well as the right thing to do, is to tell the dealer and ask for a new deck. This is why players are allowed to ask for a new deck. Unfortunately, most of the requests for new decks come from idiots who hope that a new deck will change their luck.

There are many ways to mark a deck and get away with it, though i wont discuss all of the ways here.

I've never tried this, nor is it likely that i ever would - but it's interesting to consider.

There are substances that can be rubbed onto surfaces that are invisible to the naked eye, but that can be seen under ultra violet lights, and/or specific lenses.

If you could work such a lense into a frame of shades and have a small cannister of the invisible substance in your pocket, you could easily give yourself a huge edge.

For instance - you could mark one corner for all kings, two corners connected by width for queens, two corners connected by length for jacks, two opposite corners for tens, and a dab im the center for aces.

Very easy to read, very easy to mark and very difficult to detect, unless you're trying it at a casino with extremely detailed security features.

The only problem would be that you rarely see cards often enough before it is reshuffled to have complete information of the deck. Obviously it's a lot more viable at home games where you have access to the deck before hand.

You'd have to be a pretty big prick to try this at home games though... and a pretty big idiot to risk getting caught doing it at casinos.
