Default War of the blinds with Q8o, turn pairs board

SB is pretty solid pre-flop (28/16) and seems fairly straightforward post-flop. Haven't caught him bluffing but assume he is capable since he seems decent.

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (6 max, 3 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
1 fold, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: (2 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB bets, Hero raises, SB calls.

Turn: (3 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB raises, Hero ???

Heads-up with top pair and my opponent checked pre-flop? If I've got a nine I'm pretty sure it's best on this flop, but I'm afraid of all the overcards, so I'd 3-bet instead of doing a stop-n-go. If he's decent, he probably would too. I call it down and give him the chance to bluff the river too.

Scott

PS One exception I guess . . . is he capable of limping with a big PP in this situation?

Thanks Scott, that's what I was thinking too, and it's nice to see some confirmation of this line of thought.

So I called it down and he had 97o (so not only did he have the 9 but he hand an open ender to go with it).

So I think my read was off a little bit prior to this hand (but I was providing my read at the time of course). So maybe what happened is that he was a little more passive than I realized and may have been worried about being outkicked on the flop. Then he turns trips and gets a little braver.
