Default Atlantic City Newb Questions

I have to drive up to Monmouth County on Thursday for a court date, and as my next exam is not going to be till the end of next week I was thinking of staying in Atlantic City Thursday and Fri nights.

What casinos should I be looking at for NL Hold' Em games (I do not play limit)? With the BR I'll have on me I'll probably be looking for 1/2 and 2/5 games. Also, where should I look at staying as far being a nice mix of being not-too-sketchy of a place(hey I'm in college my standards for living arent that high yet), near stuff to do, and some what economic?

Any other pointers you can give me about AC in general or casino/hotel staying (I just turned 21 last weekend) are also greatly appreciated.

BTW I used the search; it sucks.

You're correct that the search sucks.

As for places to stay that are cheap (perhaps someone should add that section to the AC wiki page), I've stayed in Absecon once -- tons of cheap places, some of them a bit tacky, but nowhere where i feared for my life or anything.

I can't help as far as accomodations are concerned, but you can definitely find good 1/2 and 2/5 games at the Taj Mahal. Given that the room is a lot larger than many of the others, they usually have many games going, and they usually start games when the waiting list begins to form. The Tropicana should also have multiple games going, and is one of the more popular rooms.

The Showboat House of Blues room is known for having games with awful players, but they have fewer games going. For example, I went on a Friday night, and there was only one 1-2 NL game going, and nobody was getting up from the table, so I left and went to the Taj Mahal.

The Borgata probably has good games going too for your needs, though they can tend to have higher waitlist times. The other bad thing about the Borgata is that it's not near any of the other poker rooms, though it is the nicest hotel by far. Someone here said they have a $79.99 room rate for 4 hours of play, though, so you might want to look into it.

Even though I've never been to the Taj before that's probaly your best bet. It's got a big poker room and their guest rooms shouldn't be to pricy. The Borgata is nice but rooms start at $150. This is right around the corner too, and on a weekend so your prices are probaly doubling as we speak..

If your on a budget I'm not sure it makes sence to stay somwhere cheaper without a good poker room. You could stay at Bally's or such for cheap but then your spending money and time getting to a good poker room. It's going to be cold as balls out and walking the strip at night is pretty depressing during the winter. $5+ bucks a pop for a cab.

I may be a donk, but I had a tough 1/2 NL table at the house of blues a few weeks ago.

Also, if you get a prostitute, make sure its not a dude.

The Tropicana is your best bet for sheer volume of 1-2 and 2-5 NL games.
