Im glad you never quit altogether and figured out what makes it work for you.

I remember not to long ago on IRC I was arguing with you about some EV thing, I cant remember what it was exactly, I think it was about quiting a session early just cuz you were up. Anyway, what I do remember is that you made me realize sometimes theres more to poker than just picking the highest +EV route, and not everyone is in it for the grind. Which is stuff I hadnt really considered before, or prolly more likely, stuff that I had forgotten along the way. Not really sure what the point to my little anticdote is, other than just to say thanks for helping me gain that perspective.

Anyway, good post dids, and I'm glad you refound your enjoyment and are having fun with poker.

Good post.

Really interesting to read for me, because it captures my situation and feelings about poker exactly right now. I got burned out playing a bunch of hands trying to "grind" my profit.

A few weeks ago I pretty much pulled all of my money offline, and decided I needed to just start playing live once in a while when I feel like it, to work on that part of my game instead. Certainly has resulted in a better state of mind for myself, and I'm sure I'll start playing better as a result.

nobody delvs into the emotional aspect anymore. the closest thing I see would be people whining about 200bb swings. your approach to this game is admirable, the fact that you simply realized what you cannot do and are now choosing to do what you can is great.

Good post. I also get burned out trying to play more than 10-12 hrs. a week multitabling after work. I think it's important not to ignore the signs that you are getting burned out on playing. Taking a week or two off, especially if you aren't a pro, can help tremendously.

I have a 9-5 job that pays well and provides insurance and other necessities for my family. Poker is an escape for me. Nothing more, nothing less. I may play a bunch of hands every night for 2 weeks straight, or I may not play at all. After my Vegas trip this summer during the WSOP, I was pokered out and didn't play for 8 or 9 days.

However, this doesn't mean that I don't take the game seriously. I work hard on my game, and I want to become the best poker player that I can be.

I think not worrying about winning or losing (from an income point of view) is a double edged sword. On the one hand, there is no urgency to push my game to higher limits. On the other hand, I think I am less likely to tilt over a bad session because my life doesn't change whether I win or lose.
