Did I play this hand right?
This is a $2-$4 table at Riverrock Casino (Richmond BC). Table largely dominated by loose passive players (calling stations) with about 3 semi sold players.
I was dealt A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], I raised it to $4, about 5 callers including the BB. Flop: 3 10 7 rainbow BB bets 2, I call with about 3 callers Turn: 6 (no flush possibilities) BB checks, I bet $4, 3 callers, BB raises to $8. I fold. Did I fold right here? I thought BB had the BB special i.e. 45os. Should I have called the raise due to pot odds? Thank you very much, grateful for any comments and/or criticism! Results in white: BB wins pot with 6's and 7's 2 pair, river was an Ace (I would have won if I called) |

Re: Did I play this hand right?
Why did you not raise this flop? This is a good flop for you and you should have the best hand, raise it up and see how everyone reacts. If just called, lead the turn.

Re: Did I play this hand right?
Thats a good point, I probably should have (just felt like all the calling stations would stay anyway, but then again probably should raise) how about the check raise at the turn?

Re: Did I play this hand right?
You should raise on the flop and definitely call the turn. The pot is big and there is a reasonable enough chance your opponent has two pair and if he does, you will have outs (although sometimes you don't know what they are).

Re: Did I play this hand right?
Your (correct) aggression preflop has me confused why you played the rest of the hand like such a wimp. Did you not think you had the best hand on the flop? Dont put the results until after you get some comments.

Re: Did I play this hand right?
I played at River Rock about 2 months ago while I was in Vancouver. Beautiful casino and poker room.
Mind you, I played the 2/4 on a Sunday night, but the table was tight as hell for a while. I won the blinds from raising UTG 3 times. |

Re: Did I play this hand right?
Well I was playing wimpy due to the number of callers pre flop which I wasn't too thrilled about. With the majority of the table of calling stations one of them is bound to have something like 37os or 710os (actually one guy did have 37os and went to the river). This is similar to Sklansky's line of thought to call JJ preflop if there were lots of callers before you.
But point taken, I should have raised after the flop regardless. As for posting results, I posted them in WHITE for a reason which appears to be an acceptable practice on this board. Please let me know otherwise. |

Re: Did I play this hand right?
Where does Sklansky ever say to call preflop with JJ?

Re: Did I play this hand right?
I think its this:
"If no one has opened and you are in an early position, it is usually best to raise with JJ in a tight game and to just call with it in a loose game. With two jacks you would prefer either to have no more than one or two opponents in the hope your hand holds up without improvement, or to have as many opponents in the pot as possible when the majority of your profits come from flopping three-of-a-kind. The worst scenario is when exactly three or four opponents see the flop with you. This most likely would occur if you called in a tight game or raised in a loose game." and I thought the table was pretty loose (which worked to my benefit in the end) Again point taken, I should have followed through and raise after the flop..... and probably called the C/R.... Thx everyone. |
