Default Player mucks cards then pulls them out to hit boat

It was heads up, smaller stack has QQ, other guy has A8, flop is 88J. QQ goes all in and is quickly called by A8. QQ says "do you have an 8", the other guy quickly says yes and QQ throws his cards in the muck. Dealer finishes the hand and when Q comes on turn small stack quickly retrieves his cards. Another Q comes on river. QQ starts raking the pot and other guy says nothing. WTF?

I don't think there will even be a debate about this. The fact that the QQ was all-in is irrelevant, once those cards hit the muck, they're dead. The dealer shouldn't have bothered finishing the hand.

Firstly, dealer was wrong to continue dealing -- hand was over when the queens hit the muck.

This being said, in a friendly game, I don't think it's unusual for the 'real winner' to allow the mucker to take the pot in this situation. However, it's VERY game dependent.

They're morons, especially the A8.

Were the Queens "mucked" face down? If so, I'd agree with the other posters....the hand is dead. If the Queens were shown then mucked in disgust, why wouldn't a "cards speak" rule come into play?

The player was an idiot for throwing his queens into the muck before the hand was completed. However, a player who is all-in can make no more additional plays including folding. Per Roberts rules, when a player is all in and there are no more betting opportunities, all players must show their hands.

Now that being said, if his cards are face up in the muck or if they are easily distinguishable from the rest of the cards, he's okay and they can be retreived. If there is ANY question of which were his cards, he's outta luck.

This same situation basically was posted about several months ago and there was a huge debate on it. I and yes, I do mean I, actually wrote Bob Ciaffone on this. His reply was basically, if the player's cards were mucked before being shown or tabled, they are dead and the dealer should have stopped the deal, end of story.

If the cards were tabled and shown, then the hand is live and the that player can claim the pot, even if he takes his exposed live hand and tosses them in the muck in disgust.

Please, let's not get into this again, it was painful enough the first time.
